Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers smacked centuries to take RCB to a massive 248 runs against GL in Bangalore on Saturday.
Royal Challengers Bangalore started slowly against Gujarat Lions at Bangalore on Saturday. They were 19/1 after 4 overs having lost Chris Gayle early once again. But then came the fireworks courtesy Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. First it was de Villiers to smack the bowling around the park with Kohli playing the supporting act. Later in the inning, at the closing juncture, Kohli took control as AB stood and admired from the non-striker’s end.
The duo put together an incredible 229 runs for the second wicket from just 96 balls.
Virat Kohli ended things with 109 from 55 balls and AB de Villiers with 129 from 52 balls. This is the second time two players from same team scored hundreds in a match. Previously, Kevin O’Brien (119) and Hamish Marshall (102) scored two tons in same innings in English County in 2011.
AB de Villiers took 43 balls to reach his ton – the fifth fastest in IPL. Chris Gayle holds the record for the quickest ton (30 balls).
Kohli and De Villiers now have four century partnerships between them – most for a pairing in a single IPL season.
RCB scored a massive 112 runs in the last five overs. After 10 overs, RCB were 76/1, they added 172 in the last 10 overs.
Only Ravindra Jadeja finished with an economy rate of below 10. Everyone else was thumped around with Shivil Kaushik proving most expensive. His final figures read: 3-0-50-0.
